Mech RP - Character Thread and background

The year is 2220, and since the mid-21st century, Humanity has been expanding outwards, terraforming and colonising every planet and moon they could, led by the International Coalition of Earth, later reformed into the Inter-Planetary Coalition. After almost a century of peace, the I.C finds itself embroiled in a brutal civil war. Several colonies, feeling that they were treated by the I.C compared the Home System, declared their independence. An arms race ensued, each side quickly adapting their colonisation technology into weapons of war, before the first Inter-System war broke out, beginning with the Battle of Station AB-177.

The disorganised rebels, with their differing political beliefs, quickly found themselves being pushed back by the unified Coalition, and only after reaching a proper agreement between the varying factions could they properly oppose the I.C, forming the Liberation Brigade. Despite their new found unity, they failed to make any significant gains against the I.C, and their system was captured within a few years.

Until now, the Liberation Brigade remained as a loose collection of Terrorists, anarchists and pirates, raiding and attacking whatever they could. In recent years, they have quickly become more of a threat as the Anti-I.C sentiment once again rises in the outer colonies.

Technology
With the refinement of Nuclear engines, humanity can between the farthest two systems in only three weeks. Power on colonies is mostly powered by Wind, solar and Nuclear energy.

Military
Both Militaries are comprised of regular humans, and divisions of genetically and cybernetically enhanced soldiers, known as Rangers. Rangers are faster, stronger, and smarter than the average human, and are the only ones capable of piloting Combat Frames; towering, humanoid machines with near-sentient on-board AIs. The average size of these Frames is around 30 feet, and they are usually armed with an assortment of heavy weaponry.


You are a member of the I.C. Defence Force, and are stationed on the colony of Everest, one of the worst affected by the Liberation Brigade’s attacks.

Biography:
James was born on Earth on November 1st. His parents owned a small bakery in the United Kingdom, and like most Earth-born, his family are fiercely supportive of the I.C. When he enlisted into the I.C.D.F at eighteen, they celebrated their ‘future hero’. The oldest of six children, with three brothers and two sisters, James was the first to enlist. His younger brother followed on his own eighteenth birthday, and had only served for two months before he was killed in a skirmish with the Liberation Brigade. His death prompted James to attempt the gruelling selection for the Ranger Corps, a group his brother had idolised. 18 months later, after successfully adapting to his ‘upgrades’ and passing his training, James has been stationed at Everest with his new partner, the AI “Cheshire”.

Appearance: Aster stands in at about 5 foot 11. He has dark red hair styled in a crew cut. He has a clean shaven face, showing off the scar of battle on it. Most notably one coming from the point under his left earlobe and running over his jaw. He has a tattoo sleeve on his right arm showing off his loyalty to Earth and the I.C.

Biography: Aster was Earth born and bred, living in the Emerald Isle of Ireland. His family were steadfast in supporting military operations and when the time came, they were all shoved off to their desired branches as soon as they would come of age. Aster, however, was a bit hesitant at first. He never saw a point in war or fighting and wondered how a human could just take another's life just because of differences of opinion. He was shaken when an event made him turn a complete 180. As soon as he was able, he enlisted into the I.C.D.F.
His love for his country and the need to protect the ones he loved prompted him into going through the rigorous training in the Ranger Corps. It would take him 18 months to learn the ins and outs of his new power and upgrades and by the end of it all, he was a fully fledged soldier and Ranger. Upon this, he was granted the A.I. Priestess named after the Tarot card representing knowledge and the protector of the unconscious. He was shipped to Everest in an attempt to quell the Liberation's fire there.
