Zombie Story: Threads of a Tire

I get up and grab a few of my knives.

"C'mon. I don't mind. We are all just trying to survive, after all"

=I begin to follow him.=

Anything odd happened recently?

"Nope."

We start walking.

=I check my Shotgun. Only two shots left.=

Ah well...

"You know, you'd be better off with a rifle of some kind. Shotguns don't do much other than knock them over."

Where would I get a rifle?

=I put my Shotgun away.=

"The gun shop. Right now we are going to the workshop, to get you some ammo."

I turn to move past a group of people carrying a piece of metal.

Okay.

=I pull out my knife, checking it.=

We get to the workshop. I ding the bell on the counter.

"Hey, Raul! I got you a customer."

Raul walks up and looks at Miller.

'What is you name, son?'

Miller.

=I put my knife away.=

'And what are you looking for?'

"He's looking for some ammo for that shotgun of his."

'Hmm...what gauge is it, Miller?'

Twelve Gauge... I think.

=I scratch my helmet.=

'Don't have a lot of twelve gauge. I got maybe...5 rounds. Those things aren't easy to make.'

He goes back and brings out a small case of rounds. He takes out 5 twelve gauge rounds.

'Yup, five it is. What are you going to give me in return?'

=I put two mags of 5.56mm rounds on the counter.=

Good enough?

Raul takes the mags and hands the shells over to Miller.

'Here you go. Pleasure doing business with ya.'

=I take the shells, and look over at Garth.=

So, the weapon store next?

I nod.

"Yeap. See you later, Raul."

'Later, G."

I turn and head out of the store.

=I nod at Raul, and head out of the shop, following Garth.=

"So, what else do you think you got that can get you a rifle?"

=I shrug.=

I have some more Magazines, and a grenade, but that's about it.

Oh, and in the Duckboat, there was toilet paper. I don't know if that's worth anything though...

I smile.

"That toilet paper is worth it's weight in gold, my friend."

There's about three rolls, so how much would that be worth...?

"Just about anything."

Okay.

=We arrive at the gun store.=

We walk in and go up to the counter.

"This guy needs a rifle."

'We all do. Now step aside and let him talk.'

So, what have you got then?

=I flip the front part of my helmet up.=

'I have a hunting rifle and scope for it, as well as several clips of ammunition. That work for ya?'

=I nod.=

So, what do you want for it? Will a roll of toilet paper do?

'Yes it will. Now give.'

She holds out her hand.

I will be right back...

=I head out the shop, and to the Duckboat. I grab a roll of toilet paper, and begin to head back.=

'What the hell is he doing?'

"How should I know?"

'Shut up, smart ass.'

=I walk back into the Shop, and put the roll of toilet paper on the counter.=

There.

She puts the rifle, minus the scope on the counter as well as some ammo. She takes the toilet paper and puts it away under the counter.

'There you go.'

What? No scope?

'That's extra. You want it, another roll.'

"Don't worry, she does this to everyone."

'Shut up.'

I put my hands up in a mock surrender.

Another roll? Wouldn't some ammo or something do?

'You don't need a scope to kill zombies. That's my price, I have no need for ammo.'

=I take the rifle and ammo.=

A pleasure doing buisness with you...

=I begin to walk out.=

I follow him.

"So, you all set?"

Yeah, I guess.

=I put the flap down on the front of my helmet.=

"So, what are you going to do now? Go kill some zombies like a lot of others have done or stay and build a life, like a lot of others have done?'

=I shrug.=

I just want to find out who I am... So I guess I'll stay... Try and make the Duckboat more of a home.

"That's good. Got any ideas as to how to do that?"

As to what? Finding out who I am, or making the Duckboat more of a home?

"Either"

As for finding out who I am... No idea... As for making the Duckboat more of a home... Take out some of the seats, stick a bed in there... Fix the door and window. That's about it.

"I'll help in anyway I can."

I look at him.

"Just ask."

=I had left the house with a bottle of water I found in Lee's bag=

Aint gonna sleep on the floor again.

=I am currently working on the house=

=I wake up, looking around. Rich gone. Bo at the foot of the bed=
=I shake my head, standing up=
=I search my bag for the last bottle of water, I had=

"Your welcome. Now, if you excuse me, I need to go check up on food."

I wander off towards the grocery.
