| (I probably should've posted this before the sign-up sheet *cough*) READ THIS SHIT ALL THE WAY THROUGHFew living in Mainne have memory of the land before this terror was brought upon it. The Undead, The Plague, The Black Death, it goes by many names, but to the people of Mainne it is recognised by one name; Harbinger, for wherever the dead go, death follows. The Kingdom of Demonsreach is crippled beyond belief, with the city of Minurva hidden away deep in the mountains, too fragile to show itself to the darkness of the undead horde. Cut off from all form of communication and filled with refugees from both Monumbra and Stonefall, it hopes to live out this horror for as long as possible. To the east, the Kingdom of Niy is at boiling point; originally, it was far from bothered with the undead outbreak, but with the gall to attack the Ljnn Kingdom has been furious for recompense, it's full army pushing against the horde as hard as possible so as to keep it's own realm safe. In the north, in Lasyra, events have not changed much. Though they reinforced the Living Union in 3952, they suffered little and have continued their own peace, despite the overhanging shadow. Further north still, Vulma sits atop a great prideful monument to itself, the waves of slave soldiers sent out a beacon of their strength. With much wealth and fame, their lords are more than content to ignore Mainne. And then, to the east, lies Halid. Founded not long before the arrival of the undead, it has been a powerful asset in the war, and it is willing to do whatever it takes to reclaim the lands of it's allies. The people of Mainne have stayed strong in this bleak time. Though many have given in and broken, the great people will not let themselves fall. Rallies and festivities line the streets on most days now, for no reason beyond morale. Because when the shadow of death appears, you will no longer have the chance to be happy. - You are in Halid. Whatever it is that brought you here, one day you will be thankful for it, be it a simple tailing or an invitation. Whatever part of fate brought you here, it will change the course of history. - Timeline of Events:
3805 CE Late Winter: A powerful mage of Energetics by the name of Aedwjn goes missing while on an expedition of unknown nature to the catacombs near his Tower home in Wreathwood not far outside Stonefall. A search begins for him. In the Early Fall, Aedwjn's body is discovered in his tower, seeming to have only recently died. Fellow mages are baffled. One week later, the body disappears. No explanation is ever decided.
3812 CE A Ljnn man is seen at a medical house for treatment of an injury. Medical Mages discover he is living, yet dead. They are unable to comprehend this, and agree to take him to the Order of Energetics for study. That night, however, he leaves Stonefall, and is never seen again.
3821 CE A band of ten City Guards are ambushed by bandits. Three, despite having sustained normally fatal wounds, manage to make it back to Stonefall. Doctors are unable to determine how they could have survived, and are later discovered to have been living dead. They are tried as Demons and burned. The bodies of the remaining guards are never found.
3822 CE A group of twelve men and five women is found dead in Wreathwood by City Guards on patrol. No cause of death can be determined. That night, they vanish from the city morgue, and are seen walking around the marketplace together in the morning. They are expelled from the city by guards, and are not seen again.
3829 CE A Tavern in Stonefall is found to be harbouring Undead. The owner and all its residents are tried and executed. The building is burned and the site consecrated by the Church of Light.
3843 CE Undead sightings and hunting are at record highs.
3853 CE The last of the Undead seem to be expelled from the world. No new reports would arise for many years to come.
3888 CE Strange noises and foul smells are reported from Wreathwood at night. Investigations are undertaken, but no solid evidence is found. The reports are dismissed as rumour and urban legend.
3889 CE Late Winter: A group of mercenaries traveling in Wreathwood enter a small cave which is said to house a cult of four or five cannibals. They travel deep underground, much farther than the cave is supposed to go, and come to find a massive cavern reeking of death. Inside they see camps of Undead outside a pale gate guarded by skeletal soldiers. The group make haste back to Stonefall to report their findings to the Mayor.
3890 CE Early Spring: The Mayor of Stonefall dispatches a band of twenty-five soldiers and guardsmen to Wreathwood to deal with the Undead hidden in the Cavern. None of them return. To avoid widespread panic and alarm, the whole operation is covered up.
3896 CE Spring: Reports begin to resurface about Undead in Wreathwood, in far greater number than ever before. The people cry out to the Mayor to take action. On the eve of All Saints Day, all the city's soldiers and guards are sent into Wreathwood with orders to wipe out the undead, who would fiercely defend their home.
Summer: Soldiers arrive from Monumbra to aid in the effort to extinguish the Undead in Wreathwood. The fighting escalates into a full-scale invasion. Casualties are high, and the push is unsuccessful. Most of the bodies are never recovered.
Winter: With morale hitting rock bottom, the winter cold moving in, and the fighting men and women of Stonefall and Monumbra exhausted from seasons of battle, the Undead make a bold move and push outward from Wreathwood. The living never stood a chance, and the forest falls.
3897 CE Late Winter: The Undead arrive outside of Stonefall on New Year's Day. With most of the Soldiers and Guardsmen having been sent to Wreathwood and subsequently killed off, the city is nearly defenceless. The city's walls provide little sanctuary as Undead soldiers swarm up them like termites. Once inside, nobody is safe. Many try to escape, but the city is surrounded. If any survived the onslaught, they didn't make it back to civilization. This marks the beginning of what came to be known as the Blood Year.
Spring: The Undead horde pushes outwards from Stonefall. The living races organize a common army to combat this threat. With their armies united, they march for the Undead Homeland. Though their hearts were strong and their courage great, they could not stop the advance. With every soldier fallen, the ranks of the black tide grew...
3901 CE Monumbra comes under siege by the Undead. A stalemate begins. The Undead wait...
3902 CE The defenders of Monumbra are out of supplies and cut off from the outside world. Unable to resist, the Undead face little challenge when they batter down the main gate and storm the city. It is a massacre. At the same time, soldiers from the North are crossing the East Vivian River heading for Monumbra. They are met on an open plain by an Undead Horde and chased back north.
3913 CE The Undead now control most of the region between Wreathwood and Monumbra.
3921 CE Undead are assaulted from the North in a seven season long campaign. The fighting is fierce, and many are killed.
3922 CE The Undead begin their push North towards the East Vivian River.
3930 CE The Undead begin pushing West towards Whitewood.
3932 CE Miy falls. The Horde comes to the edge of Whitewood Forest.
3934 CE Whitewood falls to the Undead.
3939 CE There is a Summer of momentary peace. No battles take place until the Autumn.
3949 CE The Undead now control most of the region between Wreathwood and Whitewood south of the East Vivian River.
3952 CE Undead Forces attempt to cross East Vivian River. The attack is repelled, despite overwhelming odds. This break in the Horde's defence signals a new chance to reclaim the Southlands. The free peoples of the North push the Undead back.
3967 CE The Undead are pushed back to Monumbra and Wreathwood.
3981 CE Monumbra is retaken by the living. The remaining Undead are pushed back to Wreathwood.
3984 CE The Living Armies are organizing an invasion to reclaim Stonefall. The odds are highly against them...
