Fallout RP Chapter 1

My platoon had been running for the past 3 days. Fuck, I was tired, this armour was a bitch to carry. But the Legion were still behind us, we'd already been in a good few firefights with the legionaries, killing about half of us. And they weren't even the main force.

"Welcome to the Capitol Wasteland, men. Take in the view while you can."

I looked out over the Wasteland, it looked... cleaner, than the Mojave, but still, it was a Wasteland.

"Captain, we can't keep running. Half of the men are about to drop dead, myself included."

The captain looked at me.
"I know, Corporal. We're almost there, just need to find somewhere safe to set up."

I nod, removing my helmet in order to drink some water.

I finally stop running for a second and try catching my breath. My lungs finally figure out how to function and I breathe finally.
I sigh as I start walking. I take out my side arm and let it hang with my hand.
I should be entering the 'Capitol Wasteland' right about now.

I sit down on a rock as we await the return of our scouts. As one of them jogs back we hear a gunshot from behind us.

I jump up, replacing my helmet and take cover behind a rock, drawing my rifle. Another shot and one of the troopers falls over, dead, bleeding from the throat.

"SNIPER!"

We don't move for another ten minutes, but the sniper doesn't reengage us.

Smart. Kill them one by one and demoralise them first.

The scout approaches what's left of Charlie Company Platoon 2.

"Captain, there's a large, pre-war aircraft carrier to the North. I also spotted someone dressed in NCR armour, possibly one of the missing troopers from Platoon 3."

"Understood, Private. We'll pick him up. Troopers! Listen up! We're moving to that ship and picking up a stray. Cook! Lead the way."

"Sir."

I step up and begin patrolling North.

I look over my shoulder and see a couple Legionaires had caught up with me.
"Will this guys stop sending their scouts? They know they never come back right?"
I sigh as I grab my. 308 and lay down. I take aim at one and fire. Headshot. Then take aim at another and repeat the process.
Eventually five are dead and three got away. I'm not bothered by the ones who get away. I already know what they're gonna do.

We notice our stray about 10 minutes into the patrol. I'm about to shout to him when another gunshot rings out, leaving another one of the men dead.

We all take cover yet again, each man waiting to get a shot at the Legion Sniper. Well, apart from me.

Eventually we stand up and I'm ordered to move away from the group and get the trooper over, seeing as I'm the only heavy left.

That wasn't my gun, looks like I've got some competition.
I look around for the sniper, any glint of the scopes or any movement at all. Finding a human figure encased in armour.
It takes me a minute before Realizing its a NCR heavy and not a Brotherhood of Steel fellow.
I jump up on my feet and walk over to him, closing the gap between us. "Sir?"

"I'm just a Corporal. Corporal James Cook, Charlie Company, 2nd Platoon. Our scout noticed you earlier. We're picking you up on our way to that aircraft carrier to the North."

I think for a second and lower my voice.

"Be careful though, we're taking losses that could only be because we have a Frumentarii - a spy - leaking info to the Legion as we go."

I turn and walk back to my platoons' hiding spot.

=I finish making my bi-weekly supply run to Rivet City, and begin to head back to my house when I hear distant gunshots=

That's not all that odd...except its fairly close to here. That's the odd part.

=I decide to get a view point on the deck to check it out with my rifle scope=

Well, well...what do we have here...

=I decide to go against my better judgement and check out the situation for myself=

I stop dead in my tracks. I'm try to think about this for a moment.
A spy killing these men off. I've got to at least try to root him or her out. NCR troops are on the line.
I walk back with the heavy to the area he had come from.

"Captain, we got our man, we should keep moving."

He nods, gesturing for me to lead again.

"You said something about a Aircraft Carrier?"
The question is to nobody particular just someone who'll answer.

I talk over my shoulder, keeping my eyes scanning the path.

"Yeah, some big ass thing near the river. Don't know if it's empty, mind. But it's the best place for shelter our scout could find."

"I'll tell you one thing though, I'm a sniper. I'm no good in close combat."

"Then stay behind me and you'll be fine."

I raised my fist, halting the men as I crept forward to check something.

This is the place...

I beckoned them forward again and when they were close enough, brought my foot down onto a mine, causing a chain reaction of explosions.

I was thrown onto my back, my armour taking most of the force.

"Daah!!"
I'm blown away from the explosion, not even standing behind the heavy prevented it.
I land on my head a good couple of yards away and dull pain erupts through my body. I lost my helmet forever ago...
"Oooooh..." My voice gritty and low.

I coughed as the dust settled.

"Is anyone hurt?" I heard the captain shout.

"O'Brian's dead."

I get up and throw my helmet off, leaving my rifle where it fell and approach the captain.

"SEE? I FUCKING TOLD YOU! I FUCKING TOLD YOU THERE WAS A FRUMENTARII HERE! BUT YOU DIDN'T BELIEVE ME, NOW O'BRIAN IS DEAD! HOW THE FUCK DO I KNOW IT ISN'T YOU? I TELL YOU I'M SUSPICIOUS, THEN I GET BLOWN UP? YOU. FUCKING. BASTARD."

I punch the captain square on the nose, knocking him back and drawing blood.
He swings back with a punch of his own, which I take on the jaw before punching him in the ribs and tackling him to the floor.

I get up and blink a lot in a attempt to clean the dust from my eyes. I cough a couple times before I realize what's happening.
"Get off of him! Your going to crush him with your armour."
I try to run over to them, only to fall from dizziness.

The surviving troopers drag me off of the captain, who gets up holding his nose.

"I'll kill you, you legion dog!"

"Corporal, I know how that looks to you. But please calm down. I had nothing to do with this."

I sigh.

"Yes... sir. Sorry for your nose. But O'Brian was my friend. You'll have to forgive me I don't take this Frumentarii alive."

=As I start to head over, I see a series of explosions as one of the troopers trips the minefield=

Wow...they're out of their element aren't they...?

=I started to head their direction, seeing the problems starting to unfold=

Well...better give them a hand now

=I start to head over their direction, hoping I didn't get shot in the process=

I cough a couple times before getting up again. I very carefully walk over to the remaining soldiers.
Damn, why would anyone set up a mine field in the middle of nowhere? To kill NCR troops coming this way.
But that would mean someone had to know about us. Putting all doubts of a spy here to rest. But who? I can't trust anyone.

I look at our newbie and whisper to him quietly.

"You're the only one who I can rule out as the spy, this bastard has been with us since the Dam. Watch them closely."

I walk back to the front where I retrieve my helmet and rifle.

I nod to him as he walks away.
Not even you, sorry. But Legionnaires are ruthless, cunning bastards. Usually good actors if they're a spy. What did he call them?
Frumentarii?
I turn around and look for the sniper. But I see nothing.

I pull my helmet back on and check my rifle and armour for damage.

The rifle seems fine and my armour is a little scorched, but otherwise undamaged.

I resume the patrol without another word.

I wait for everyone to follow James before I follow him too. I'm better in the back of the group. And I don't have to worry about being stabbed in the back.

=I keep my movements slow as I approach the trooper patrol, knowing sounds carried out in the wastes=

Careful...careful...

=I step on a large twig, the snap echoing in the wastes=

Shit...

I snapped my rifle up, aiming it at the sound.

"Come out with your hands where we can see them!

I instantly pull out my 45. and aim it at the Wastelander. Safety off and ready to go.

=I follow the voice, holdong my hands above my head=

Smooth James...very smooth...

Don't you worry about me...I mean y'all no harm.

=I look at the guns aimed at me with a bit of fear=

I'm just here to see if y'all needed a hand.

I speak to the captain.

"He could be a Legionary."

The captain lowers his rifle and looks at the newcomer.

"What's your name?"

=I keep my hands up, even though some of them lower their guns=

Name's James Robinson...I'm native to these parts.

=I take another look at the group=

Like I said...I'm here to see if you people need a bit of help.

"Captain?"

"Let 'em through."

I lower my rifle and gesture for James to come over.

Now we have two James'? That's going to be fun. Except it isn't.
I holster my side arm as does everyone else.
"You said you were going to help us? Why? Most people don't."

=I slowly lower my arms, watching the crowd of troopers=

You people seem unfamiliar with the territory here, so I decided to lend you a hand.

=I continue forward a bit=

Judging by the outfits...you really don't know much about the land here, do ya?

"We're from the New California Republic, or more recently the Mojave Wasteland. Here to keep you people from slavery and death."

"If things happen the way it's bound to happen, then the chances are we'll know it."
I move my head around a little to pop my neck before continuing.
"Listen, we have people after us. Very evil, ruthless, people. Willing to kill any in their way and have the numbers to do so.
They're going to make you join them or die. We're gonna need some help.."

After I heard multiple gunshots in the distance I made my way in that direction to see what was causing such a ruckus. I perched myself on a rock and looked out on a large open area. I heard an explosion close by. Damn raiders I bet. I see a group of people that looked to be of some military. I slowly pull out one of my Colts keeping it ready but not aimed at them.
"What are soldiers like you doing in a place like this?"

I've fought against some characters...But I'll give you boys a hand.

=I look and see a very familiar figure=

Well I'll be damned...

Hello there Dirty Harry.

"Well if it ain't Copperhead"
I walk up to the familiar face holster my weapon but keep my other hand near the other one. I extend my arm for a handshake.
"And it's Henry by the way, that water must be rotting your brain out"

=I chuckle and shake his hand=

Probably is. Sorry 'bout that Henry.

=I rub my head and give Henry a slight smile=

I look around me and Copperhead.
"What you runnin' with bucket heads now?"
I stare at the one with dried up blood on his nose.
"Maybe I judged to soon."

"I'm going to go ahead a take a guess that you're friends."
I don't bother to grab my gun, if he wanted us dead he would've tried.

=I look to the trooper with a slight smile=

Yeah...We know each other well.

=I look again to Henry=

These boys are from put of town...and they say they brought hell with them.

I glance over to the soldier who spoke then back at Copperhead.
"We got enough hell what with the mutants acting up in DC,
but if there's hell knocking on the front door I wanna answer it." I wear a sharp grin on my face.

"Yeah but this hell is a army of destructive, evil, slavers who'd sooner crucify you and your family then kill you on the spot."
I sigh as I finish. Just talking about it makes me remember everything. Why I kill these bastards.

=I go wide-eyed for a second, then go silent at the statment=

Not even the slavers here are that bad...we're in trouble

Well...then you're going to need all the help you can get.

I watch the soldier, Not the first time I've seen that look before
"James is right, if you brought that kind evil here i'm sure as hell not gonna let them roam these wastes freely"

"If we even want to have a chance we're going to need help. Can we count on you two?"
I shift my weight a little because these people I see right now could die in a matter of seconds.
"Better decide soon, because these people aren't far behind us."

"No Offense, but just the two of you isn't enough. We need an army. A skilled one at that. And we also need to find out who the spy here is."

They could figure out it was one of the others, but if they got close to finding me... I'd have to arrange an ambush..

"Well yeah, but we have to start from the bottom up. Start with the little things."
I shrug and scratch the back of my head.
"Shouldn't we not tell them that they're only hope has a spy amongst said hope? I'm just saying."
